HISTORY
The founder of Coca Suki Restaurant, Mr. Srichai Phanphensophon
believed that every culture has its own unique culinary.
The
Southern Chinese founder was impressed with the "Huoguo"
cooking style; which is a Mongolian tradition to have
a meal
together while encircling a big pot of boiling water
to warm
themselves in the icy cold region. Considering Bangkok's
tropical climate, starting up a restaurant like this
kind of cooking style was
a challenge. However, Mr. Phanphensophon was confident
with
the concept. Therefore, together with his wife in 1957,
they
started a Chinese restaurant located in Soi Dejo, Bangkok,
with a capacity of twenty chairs.
As a matter
of fact, the restaurant is
thriving immensely and along with its significant growth
encourages numerous competitions. To distinguish between
Coca and its competitors, Mr. Srichai,
changed the name of his restaurant from 'Kekkou' (in
Chinese means to arouse appetite) to 'Coca' which is
much easier to pronounce in various languages. He also
further added the word of 'Suki' of which
idea at that time came from a Japanese
song called Sukiyaki was popular. The
impact of this name has an effect today
where every alike restaurant of this sort is called
Suki.
Coca Suki then stretched its restaurant with new branches
in a
few more spots of Bangkok. To maintain its accomplishments
and
to further expand a broader network in the overseas,
a regene-
ration management was then implemented by Mr. Pitaya
Phanphensophon, the son of Mr. Srichai Phanphensophon.
Coca restaurant was then renewed to become Coca Holdings
Interna-
tional Co., Ltd. (CHICL). The first overseas restaurant
outside
Thailand was Coca Suki Singapore opened in 1987 followed
by
Japan in 1992 located in the center of Tokyo business
district and Roppongi. In 1992 CHICL viewed Indonesia
and Malaysia as
attractive potential market shares and, marked them
with the
opening of four restaurants in Indonesia and three in
Malaysia
where success continues highlighting these new branches.
COCA SUKI INDONESIA
In 1992 the first restaurant in central Jakarta was
opened at
Cideng area and has an accentuation of a Thai and Indonesian
blend decoration; this first successful achievement
led to a second outlet opening in 1994 located in BRI
Tower with a space of 1200 square meters. The achievement
experienced in this second
eatery had prompted the third one in the same year in
Bandung,
and Surabaya in 1995. In 2003, Coca Cideng was then
shifted to Graha Mas, Kebon Jeruk. Coca Suki Restaurant
is now one of the
best chosen restaurants in Indonesia and has followed
the
success of the other leading countries.
